Abstract
The integration of digital technologies into teaching has expanded substantially, yet meaningful and pedagogically effective use remains inconsistent across educational contexts. This study investigates how professional development shapes teachers’ digital teaching practices and identifies the mechanisms that influence the transition from technology awareness to meaningful classroom integration. The analysis focuses on the relationship among professional development, technological-pedagogical knowledge, digital competence, teacher self-efficacy, pedagogical beliefs, and institutional support. The findings indicate that effective professional development is characterized by sustained learning opportunities, practical classroom application, collaboration, reflection, feedback, and context-specific support rather than isolated technical training. Professional development strengthens teachers’ technological and pedagogical capabilities while also influencing confidence and beliefs about the instructional value of digital technologies. However, the translation of these capabilities into sustained classroom practice is dependent on contextual conditions such as leadership, peer support, infrastructure, time, and technical assistance. The study proposes an integrated framework in which professional development influences digital teaching practices through competence development and psychological readiness, while organizational conditions moderate the effectiveness and sustainability of technology integration. The findings suggest that bridging the technology integration gap requires a shift from tool-focused training toward continuous, pedagogically grounded professional learning that connects technology, subject knowledge, instructional design, and classroom practice.
