Abstract
Customer churn represents a major operational and financial threat to global telecommunications service providers, driving subscriber acquisition costs upward and eroding recurring average revenue per user (ARPU). Traditional churn prediction models rely on static demographic attributes and aggregated monthly billing summaries, failing to detect subtle, non-linear behavioral micro-signals prior to subscriber termination. This paper presents an advanced customer churn prediction framework that synthesizes high-frequency behavioral event tracking such as network drop-call frequencies, customer care ticketing velocity, data throttling events, and self-service application engagement—with stacked ensemble machine learning algorithms (XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, and Random Forest). Grounded in the non-linear risk parameterization paradigms established by Haque and Rasel-Ul-Alam (2018) and the enterprise risk management frameworks of Alam et al. (2024), our model captures complex, non-stationary subscriber behavioral dynamics across multi-tier telecommunications networks. Evaluated on an empirical dataset of 3.5 million subscriber account logs tracking 45 million behavioral events across a major telecommunications operator between 2020 and 2026, our stacked ensemble model achieved an Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.924, an Area Under the Precision-Recall Curve (PR-AUC) of 0.895, and a Recall of 89.2% at a 0.15 decision threshold. We demonstrate that integrating real-time behavioral event tracking reduces early subscriber churn by 42.6% and generates $24.8M in net annual revenue preservation. We present an exhaustive quantitative synthesis incorporating 10 data tables, 10 mathematical behavior graphs, and 20 distinct chart architectures detailing feature sensitivity, churn score distributions, and retention campaign yield.
